Quick Snow Stop at Cardrona Alpine Resort
On our 1.5-hour drive from Wanaka to Queenstown we couldn’t resist a quick trip up to Cardrona Alpine Resort. Situated less than 30 minutes from Wanaka, Cardrona is a premier Ski destination and a popular day trip for both skiing and sightseeing. As there is no accommodation on mountain at most of the NZ ski fields it is very well set up for day trippers.
We boarded the ‘snow shuttle’ that would take us from the carpark at the bottom of the mountain to the top of Cardrona in 30 minutes. As we rounded the mountain the snow became deeper & deeper. When we arrived, we were in a winter wonderland. Although it was nearing the end of the ski season, there was still plenty of powder snow with skiers & snowboarders enjoying the perfect day. Clear blue sky, the sun shining and sparkling on the snow all around made for an ideal few hours at the top of Cardrona.
