Fiji, Instant Relaxation

Written on Monday, December 24, 2018 by Fiji, Instant Relaxation

From the moment my brother and I stepped onto the Nadi Airport tarmac (looking forward to spending the week at a 5-star resort for our cousin’s wedding) we were immediately amazed at our surroundings; as beautiful rainforest mountains were encircling the airport, instantly evoking a sense of relaxation. After taking in the mugginess of the weather and the greenery of the landscape, we proceeded to customs where we were greeted with a friendly “BULA” accompanied with beautiful singing and ukulele’s, needless to say, our trip had started off with a bang!

After clearing customs and collecting our luggage, we met our driver who was waiting for us and were transported in comfort and style an hour through the south east coast of Fiji. Our noses pressed to the windows we took in all of the passing views; winding hills, grazing wildlife and local communities.

When we arrived out our 5-star resort, the Outrigger Fiji Beach, the excitement kicked up a notch as we took in the vastness of the resort, the shining sun, tall swaying palm trees and glimmering beach – all of which was viewed from the stunning reception area. The resort reception is very open planned – letting the slight breeze and beautiful sunshine into the area. After a refreshing welcome drink and cold towel, we kicked back on a comfortable couch and enjoyed the live music being played by the resort entertainment. Shortly after the quick rest our curiosity got the better – we set off and explored the resort with its 5 restaurants, 3 pools, direct beach access and many more areas I’d come across later in the holiday. As I was trying to get my bearings and familiarize with the layout of the resort I did laugh to myself, thinking I would definitely get lost here and wouldn’t mind one bit – this place was beautiful!

We then wandered back to reception in time for the staff to inform us our room was ready. The room we were staying in was lovely – highlights were the spacious bathroom and balcony with a view. We didn’t stay in there for very long – it was quite hot, and we were in Fiji – time to hit the water!

From here the days before and after the wedding turn into a fun blur; relaxing by the adult’s pool with a cocktail in hand, eating dinner by the beach as the sun went down, waking up from a comfortable night’s sleep to a shining view and splashing about in the main pool with my little cousins.  A few extraordinary moments stand out – which involve the activities the resort had to offer – being the non-motorized water sports; snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding were all on offer all day every day at the resort. Cruising along the water in a kayak, exploring the beautiful coral and marine life as you snorkel or – my favorite – balancing on a paddle board the waves swaying as you look down into the crystal-clear water of the South Pacific with the sun shining all around, are experiences I certainly loved and I think everybody would also enjoy and appreciate, and Fiji has them all!

Holidaying in Fiji is what you make of it, your trip can be as relaxing or as active as you want it to be, and the gorgeous Coral Coast certainly caters for these experiences.
