Daring Devil’s Pool, Victoria Falls, Zambia

Written on Friday, September 13, 2019 by Daring Devil's Pool

Victoria Falls is renowned for some high adrenalin activities. One such activity is to visit Livingstone Island and swim in Devil’s Pool.

I was transferred from the hotel, over the border into Zambia to the historic and luxurious Royal Livingstone Hotel on the Zambezi River, where I met the guides.

From here, I boarded a small motorboat and headed to Livingstone Island, close to the edge of the falls. After disembarking, I was guided via a small track to the water’s edge where I had to then swim across to a rocky embankment.  The river was fast flowing, the current was strong. Not being a competent swimmer, my heart was pounding so hard and fast. I used every effort to get across to the other side. I then climbed up and over to see the Devil’s Pool on the very edge of the falls.

It took even more courage to lower myself in and stay there, while others around me moved to the very edge, like swimming to the edge of an infinity pool.

After some photo moments, we made our way back to Livingstone Island, where a sumptuous three-course lunch awaited us. This would have had to be one of the most daring experiences I have ever participated in and such a memorable day.
