Weekend of Luxury in Victoria’s Goulburn Valley

While we wait for the interstate borders to open why not explore a little more of our gorgeous stateThere are so many hidden gems just waiting to be explored, one of which is the Mitchelton Hotel.

Back in January, I had a lovely girl’s weekend away at the Mitchelton Hotel in the picturesque Goulbourn Valley.  We ate, drank, and even indulged in a massage!

The Mitchelton Hotel only opened in 2018 and has been built on the grounds of the famous Mitchelton Vineyard, which is in Nagambie, right on the banks of the Goulbourn river.  And the best part is that it is only a 90-minute drive from Melbourne.  Just perfect for a quick weekend away!

This hotel is absolutely stunning.  Designed by the incredible and distinctive stylings of Hector Guthrie, it has the perfect blend of natural textures and earthy tones, which makes you feel comfortable and at home.  The wood fireplace in the lobby definitely helps with that feeling, especially with a glass of their award-winning wine on hand.  And best of all it is complimentary on arrival.

With the Mitchelton Winery on site and being in a region that is home to some of Victoria’s finest food and wine producers, this property has a huge focus on great food and wine.  The Muse Restaurant serves modern farmhouse cuisine with a menu featuring local produce found throughout the Nagambie lakes district.  Breakfast was served here each morning with a cup of one the best coffees I’ve had in a long time.  It was the perfect start to the day.

The Cellar Door is the perfect place to try and then buy their incredible wines, we spent an afternoon sampling a mix of red, white and sparkling, followed up with a cheese platter at the Muse restaurant outside with an incredible view of the Goulbourn river and lush surrounds.

The grounds of the hotel are expansive and gorgeous.  The 20m infinity pool overlooks the river and there are plenty of private areas to sit, relax and enjoy the incredible views.  All 58 rooms open to a generous private balcony overlooking the Mitchelton Vineyard or the Goulbourn River.

If one winery is not enough, you can book onto the Goulburn Explorer which is a river cruise which docks at the hotel and gives you the opportunity to explore two popular Victorian Wineries – Mitchelton and Tahbilk.

Once your bellies are full with delicious food and wine, why not explore the other attractions this hotel has to offerWe spent one afternoon indulging at the Mitchelton Day Spa.  Dressed in our robe and slippers we shuffled a few doors down the hall into the spa for our pre booked Wellness Infusion Massages.

The Mitchelton Gallery of Aboriginal art is also on site. The gallery was created to provide an inspirational space for locals and visitors to experience Aboriginal art and includes works of the areas Taungurung Clan.  A permanent feature of the gallery is the message stick vehicle.  This was once a Vietnam war ambulance, and now this land rover has been painted by over 200 aboriginal artists.

I was incredibly impressed by the Mitchelton Hotel and the beauty of the Goulburn Valley.  I never knew the region was home to some of the oldest vineyards in the country!  From the fresh produce in the area, to the popular Nagambie Brewery and the well-known Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza and Gardens in Avenel, the Mitchelton Hotel is the perfect spot to base yourself and explore everything this region has to offer.
