Himalayan Experience in Leh, India

Greeted by towering peaks and the shortness of breath that only the world’s highest places can bring, not even the – 17 degree temperatures could dampen our spirit of adventure as we were picked up from the airport and made our way to the hotel. Leh is a whitewashed crumbling city, alive with vibrant culture and hardened determination at every turn, despite the size, it seemed to blend flawlessly with the rugged terrain and perfect blue skies. Through the maze of mud-rock houses and twisted steel at every level, Buddhist shrines punctuated the makeshift alleyways, as elderly robe-clad locals shuffled about their business. With thousands of prayer flags affixed to every available structure in town and the gentle breeze causing them to sway and flap, we felt a wonderful sense of Himalayan isolation intwined in the very epicenter of Buddhist culture.
