Jay travelled India's Golden Triangle firsthand and shares everything you need to know before you go

Destination:
Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, India

Best time to travel:
October to March

Trip Style:
Cultural Explorers, Heritage Seekers, Culinary Travellers,

Vivid, layered and completely alive. India delivers an experience that no other destination on earth quite replicates.

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur form one of the world's great travel routes, three cities connected by living history, Mughal grandeur and a food culture so extraordinary it could justify the journey on its own. Jay came home already planning her return.

Who Will Love the Golden Triangle?

Culture lovers and discerning travellers who want genuine immersion alongside world class comfort. India's finest hotels represent extraordinary value by international standards and the Golden Triangle showcases the very best of them.

What Surprised Jay Most?

How green and calm parts of Delhi were, with leafy streets and parks that defied every expectation. India is full of these contradictions. Arrive with an open mind and it rewards you at every turn.

When Is the Right Time to Go?

October to March without question. The cooler months make sightseeing at the Taj Mahal, Amber Fort and Jaipur's magnificent streets a genuine pleasure.

How Much Time Do You Need?

Seven to ten nights. Each city deserves proper time and the journey between them is part of the experience. This is not a trip to compress.

Where We Stayed

The Oberoi Amarvilas, Agra

Every room faces the Taj Mahal, directly across manicured gardens and a reflecting pool. A hotel of this position, service and refinement would command considerably more in Europe or Australia. In India it represents one of the truly great travel experiences in the world. Jay called it the finest hotel stay of her career.

Our Room

Premier Room. Serene and marble appointed, with the Taj Mahal framed in the window from the moment you wake.

Getting to the Taj Mahal

A dedicated golf buggy takes you from the hotel directly to the gates, a small detail that makes the morning feel effortless.

The Standout Moment

The terrace at dusk, watching the Taj Mahal shift from white to gold to rose as the light fades. Take your time.

Dining

The Meal That Stood Out

Dinner at Lakhorin in Delhi with rooftop drinks over Old Delhi beforehand as the city moved into evening. Exceptional food, extraordinary setting.

What to Order in Rajasthan

Laal Maas, a slow cooked mutton curry that is rich and deeply spiced and belongs entirely to this region. Seek it out wherever it appears on a menu.

Dietary Requirements

India is exceptionally well suited to vegetarian and vegan travellers. Communicate requirements when booking and you will be very well looked after.

Experiences

The Taj Mahal

Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century as a tribute to his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is one of those rare places that exceeds every expectation. The scale, the symmetry, the quality of light across the white marble at different hours, it stops you completely. Book timed entry tickets before leaving Australia. They sell out.

The Tour Worth Taking

The Food and Faith walking tour of Old Delhi. Through the oldest lanes of the city, past stalls feeding the same families for generations, between mosques and temples and gurudwaras sitting within metres of each other. Jay places this above everything else on the trip. It makes Old Delhi feel genuinely understood.

Top Tip

Your guide defines this journey. The difference between a good guide and a great one on the Golden Triangle is the difference between observing India and truly feeling it. Speak to our team and we will connect you with the right person. It will change everything.

Getting Around

Private driver and guide throughout. Our team arranges all ground transport before departure. The road journey between Delhi and Agra is approximately three to four hours so factor this into your planning.

Money Matters

Cash and cards are both accepted. An Indian e-Visa is required before departure and our team can assist. Consult your doctor regarding vaccinations and drink bottled water throughout your stay.

Jay's Final Word

India surprises you, moves you and feeds you better than you expected. The Golden Triangle is where most people's love affair with this country begins and very few ever want it to end.
