Hamilton Island – Escaping To The Sunshine Island

Written on Saturday, August 10, 2019 by Escaping To The Sunshine Island

We really needed a getaway, a week of sunshine, cocktails and not a great deal to do.  Hamilton Island served this up to us on a silver platter.

Mid-year, the weather is perfect for those that don’t like to holiday in the sweltering heat (me!).  Low to mid 20’s with perfect sun and blue skies every day.  Ideal weather to wander or golf buggy around the island to have a cocktail at One Tree Hill, fish and chips at the wharf, a dip in the main resorts pool with a snack… the list goes on.

There is plenty of places to choose to eat for all different budgets, and as an extra bonus there’s now a full supermarket on the island making self-catering an easy option if you’ve done all the restaurants.  Most accommodation has lovely big balconies looking out over the ocean making staying in and cooking not so much of a chore.

Activity wise there is plenty to choose from.  For families there is all the complimentary, non-motorised activities to keep kids busy, and for the grown-ups you can choose to hire a dinghy (so much fun!), or for a bit of an adrenalin thrill go out for a jetboating experience.

Direct flights to the island from Melbourne make it an ideal getaway, even just for a weekend.  In particular the value for families with children under 12 years who stay and eat for free is fabulous.

All in all, it’s a lovely island escape that’s so easy to get to.
